Connecting IRL: Teen Group for Building Safe and Healthy Connections

  • Heart Consulting LLC 6320 Monona Drive Monona, WI, 53716 United States (map)

The reliance on social media and AI for social connection has been increasing significantly, and this is especially true for teens. And although in real life (IRL) connections are shown to have a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing, many neurodivergent teens struggle to connect safely with peers.

In this three-part workshops, teens will learn about:

  • Protecting my mental health against the social media machines: understanding our brain’s drive for stimulation from screens, learning about social media algorithms and how they can “hook us”, and assessing the quality of these online connections and how they impact our mental health

  • I Deserve Better: learning how to identify red flags, both online and IRL, how to assert oneself and set boundaries, and what to do when someone is acting in unsafe or unhealthy ways

  • What truly works for me: thinking about current barriers to IRL connections, identifying our own connection goals, and what’ going to help us create more meaningful connections with others without having to mask

The group will run Tuesdays, 5-6pm on October 20th, 27th, and November 3rd. It will be in person only.

The cost can be funded by County CLTS funding, but please reach out if you would like to privately pay to discuss rates.
